SMT Quality Engineer Acuity Brands Lighting, Crawfordsville, IN July 2013 - Present
Quality Engineer for startup electronics division a Fortune 500 lighting company, manufacturing LED PCBAs and LED driver modules using SMT wave solder, and assembly. Reporting to Director of Operations on Key Quality Metrics and Strategy Deployment.
• Project Manager for Plant Traceability Project:
o Responsible for implementation of traceability for Material Execution System, set up and integrated 4 SQL virtual servers and 1 webserver to facilitate data collection for traceability collection from automated machines, manual and automated scanning stations.
• Engineering Change Coordinator:
o Coordinate all ECOs with over a dozen different design groups and manufacturing team to verify that all relevant design information is correct, and to track and validate completion of tasks by manufacturing team.
• Regulatory Compliance and Certification:
o UL, CE & ENEC – Responsible for ensuring compliance to certification bodies standards, completing inspections, and working with inspectors to write inspection reports.
• Scrap Reduction:
o Used 8D corrective actions, process improvements, additional process controls, manual and automated data collection to maintain stable level of .6% scrap over 1.5 year period during which production output increased over 500% from $500,000 per month to $3,000,000 per month TVC, and product line increased to over 400 unique assemblies.
• Control Plan and Process Audits:
o Developed control plan, documented procedures and audited processes to ensure that PFMEA high risk processes were under control and producing product according to spec.
• 5S and Standard Work (assembly time study) Implementation:
o Maintained order and cleanliness in time of rapid growth by dividing department into manageable sections that were assigned to hourly supervisors. Improvements were driven by weekly audits of 5S and standard work in department with results being charted and posted in visible locations in department.
• Management of hourly operators and supervisors:
o Create and maintain procedures for operators to follow, responsible to perform disciplinary write-ups in cases of negligence, or unacceptable work performance.
• IT support for automated machines in department:
o Created internal database and network for all automated PnP machines in department to merge all machine component databases, and create framework for revision control in programs. Created machine hard drive back up program to minimize downtime in the event of hard drive failure.
• Document Control, Process mapping and Process documentation:
o Streamlined document release process to allow for quick release of Visual Aids and other controlled documents while still maintaining ISO 9001 compliance.
• Machine upgrades and new machine installations:
o Coordinated rigging, transportation, and field engineers in installation and upgrades of $250000 Pick & Place machines to and from multiple sites domestic and international.
