PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Rethink Robotics, Boston, MA
Assembly and Test Lab Manager
October 2011 to present

•Provide assembly and test support for several groups: Manufacturing, Product Development/Prototyping/NPI, Controls, Software, Embedded, Mechanical, QA and Marketing teams.

•Design, build test fixtures to support robotic prototypes, durability testing and manufacturing activities.

•New Product introduction, successfully managed aggressive robot build schedules from the first robot prototypes through to final production models.

•Play an important role in troubleshooting and documenting robot assembly processes for (P1, P2, Design Verification (DV), Production Verification (PV) and production). Work closely with engineering groups to resolve many mechanical and electrical issues throughout the product design/development cycle.

•Manage Test Lab and Machine Shop activities to support, maintain 25 plus robotic systems to ensure continued product development. Support development of on-going engineering projects.

•Coordinate continuous improvements projects to ensure robot reliability, performance and quality goals are met.

•Introduce new assembly processes, troubleshooting documentation of robot manufacturing tests with Contract Manufactures (CM).

•Perform manufacturing cost reductions. Work closely with engineering groups on ways to reduce costs through prototyping, material changes, specs, process procedures and assembly fixtures.

•Custom design robot grippers/end-effectors to ensure good “proof of concept” for internal use and new customers.

•Use SolidWorks software to reference robot mechanical features, measurements and design of test fixtures.

•Help develop QA inspection criteria, plus QA reliability performance testing to determine product specifications.

Ultrasource Inc. Hollis, NH
Senior Equipment Engineer & Safety Manager
November 2008 to October 2011

•Small custom Thin Film contract manufacturer of specialized communications/optical components for Military and Industrial applications.

•Provide technical hands-on equipment and process engineering support for all production equipment throughout the facility including high vacuum, PECVD systems.

•Developed PM procedures, checklists, operational documents and training for critical production equipment.

•Perform calibrations/tests and validations to ensure the production equipment meet customer/OEM specifications.

•Performed DOE’s to resolve on-going process problems and to improve yields and process cycle times.

•Managed continuous improvements projects. Used machining skills/designed test fixtures to improve product quality/throughput and equipment performance.

•Designed new and modified old equipment to reduce operational costs and downtime. Developed new equipment to dry product after processing. This significantly reduced the use of flammable chemicals and the amount of hazardous waste generated, resulting in savings of $200k per year.

•Project Management: worked closely with other engineering groups to resolve on-going process problems. Managed to extend the life by two years and reduce the amount of photoresist used by a Spray Coater system by working closely with consultants/vendors. This resulted in savings of $150k.

•Reduced equipment consumable parts expenses by $100k per year through second sourcing of parts, design changes and working with local machine shops.

•Worked closely with other engineering groups to quickly introduce new products into mainstream production.

•Safety Manager: Improved and implemented various company safety protocols, policies and training programs. Performed audits and managed hazardous waste manifests to comply with state/OSHA requirements.
