Engineer, Flight System Avionics at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Apr. 2007 – Present
* Oversee software projects in their complete life cycle; from conceptual phase and architecture development to final testing and launch.
* Led flight software effort for TRaiNED project; a 2-year long mission to develop and launch a $2.1 million sounding rocket mission for collecting machine vision science data. Mission success enabled technology for 1000% more precise spacecraft landing on Mars. Tech. is now being used in a $1 billion NASA flagship mission for Mars in 2020. Won a “NASA New Technology Reward Award” in 2010 for my flight software in this project.
* Developed software and hardware for Stereo Vision on FPGA, hardware implementation now used in multiple machine vision projects at JPL such as unmanned helicopters and trucks.
* Developed software for wireless avionics technology research; received “NASA New Technology Reward Award” in 2009 for developing unique new ideas and software in wireless avionics
* Lead software engineer on SMAP project ground test equipment team; team won award for on-time and on-budget delivery of hardware/software to test flight equipment and design.
* Developed fault tolerant flight software for a CALTECH/USGS/JPL effort to build an earthquake early warning system for the state of California, successfully ported early warning algorithms to Linux for 200% faster processing.
