BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERING

Opportunity Identification / Customer Partnering
Product Positioning & Development / Market Differentiation / Proposals / Negotiation

I have led the business initiative for new customers, programs and processes for engineering projects, resolved the manufacturing production problems and achieved the results that “common wisdom” said could not be done for companies including UPS, Toyota, GE, Nissan, Whirlpool, Sony, Trane, Philips, Johnson Controls, Callaway Golf and many others.

I am successful in strategic planning, identifying, designing and leading initiatives that have made millions in potential revenue and set industry benchmarks. I have proven my effectiveness in working the phone, developing lucrative contacts within prospective client companies, and preparing winning proposals in complex business cycles.

From the world’s biggest automated industrial transport system to initiatives that placed my employer on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing private companies, I have created the strategies that set industry benchmarks soon copied by competitors around the globe.

> Identifying and realizing opportunities hidden within challenges
> Finding and removing the limiting factors hindering growth
> Planning and leading major growth initiatives
> Creating success where it was not expected
> Securing buy-in to significant change

I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Western Kentucky University. Additionally, I have taken coursework from the Lore International Institute in Business Development and financial project reporting.

SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Pioneered company into new markets bringing unforeseen business into the forefront. Led Alliant into the automotive and appliance manufacturing sector managing all P & L and strategies resulting in an additional $1.6 mil in revenue and growing.

Turned “impossible” multi-million dollar project into showcase success. Planned and led Vanderlande’s design and integration of automated sorting and transport system for $1.2B UPS Worldport expansion project while site operations continued. Despite threat of $25M liquidated damage contract clause, secured $30M cost saving.

Turned company that had not been a customer into large dollar account. Casual conversation with Johnson Controls reps on a job also served by Tekno led to discovery that their company suffered from avoidable inefficiencies. Proactively launched contacts that led to Tekno’s certification as vendor and $8M in new revenue.

Introduced production solution that became industry standard. Toyota retained Tsubaki to eliminate lost production in loop configured assembly systems due to jamming of flow racks and poor inventory access at all their plants. Designed inexpensive and reliable battery powered cart system. Ended flow rack and inventory problems.

Designed product line that ignited major sales growth. Tekno’s emphasis on designing custom machines on demand led to cash flow volatility. Developed off-the-shelf product line. Created need for new standard products sales department. Enabled company to earn spot on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies.

Restructured production for greater productivity. To minimize costs, Halton had been producing two distinct products on the same equipment, leading to scheduling disputes over manufacturing priority and consequent productivity losses. Redesigned operations, leading to 600% production increase and eliminating need to expand.

Originated machine design that won major contract award. Tekno’s client Callaway Golf had been frustrated by competitor Titleist’s patents in their attempts to manufacture their own golf ball. Created production system that resolved manufacturing methodology problems and completely avoided competitor’s patent obstacles.

Built and leveraged alliance with internal customer contact. Identified a way to dramatically undercut Tekno competitor’s price to supply customer RCA / Thomson. Teamed with aggressive young RCA engineer, giving him full credit for major cost reductions within his company, leading to further projects collectively generating over $5M.

Identified “custom” solutions as the driver of each business development initiative. Through relentless phone work and contact development, secured entry into Philips, Sony, Toshiba and other companies by finding a niche for each product and each company. Led key elements of contract negotiations.
