Experience
1990 to 2012 Process Engineering Manager
WorleyParsons Corporation. Assigned to the Longford Gas Plant Project. Re-sponsibilities included design of a new gas treatment unit to increase capacity of the existing gas treatment plant at Longford. Duties involved development of Process Scheme and P&IDs for the new gas treatment plant including sizing of process equipment such as pumps, vessels, coalescer, heat exchangers, adsorbers and other miscellaneous process equipment. Other responsibilities included technical assurance such as QA/QC, checking, and compliance with WorleyParsons EMS requirements.
Prior assignment was on the Samref CFP project responsible for development of the Off Gas Compressor System for the Mogas Desulfurization Unit. Dutuies included concept development, feasibility and design as well as budgeting and technical assurance.
Previously assigned to the Shell Martinez Refinery in Martinez in California from December 1990 to August 2010. Process Engineering Manager responsible for technical assurance, QA/QC, budgeting and scheduling for work assigned to the WorleyParsons Process Group at the refinery since 1995. Supervised up to fifteen engineers at SMR.
Typical project assignments include process and systems design engineering to support projects related to improvement, revamp and debottlenecking of various systems and units in the refinery. Projects included development and implementation of projects in the Crude Unit, Straight Run Hydrotreater, Catalytic Reformer, Hydrogen Plant, Hydrocracker, Saturates Gas Plant, Catalytic Cracker Unit, Catalytic Feed Hydrotreater, Alkylation Unit, Sulfur Recovery Units, Flexsorb Unit, Utilities, Distillates Saturation Unit, Flexicoker, Dimersol Furfural Unit, Lube Hydrotreater, Sulfonation, Lube Distillation Unit, Lube Blending, Logistics, Effluent Treatment Plant, Distillate Hydrotreater, Heavy Gas Hydrotreater, Isomerization, Caustic Regeneration, Delayed Coker and Asphalt Plant. Systems involved in these projects include various hydrocarbon feeds and products, crude oils, light and heavy oil products, volatiles, flare gas, vent gas, acid gas, DEA, caustic, sulfur, sour water, steam, condensate, nitrogen, refinery fuel gas, natural gas, oxygen and oxygen systems for the sulfur units, and effluent streams.
Responsible for projects from inception to completion including concept development, feasibility, design, implementation, and construction and start-up support. Systems engineering and design duties include Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development; hydraulic evaluations, line sizing and wall thickness calculations; controls and instrumentation design development; safety, environmental and operability resolution; evaluation of existing equipment and piping for re-rating; sizing and selection of piping, control valves, relief valves, P-V vents, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers and tanks; pressure assurance review of relief valves; flare system evaluations; preparation of procedures and standards, Management of Change, premise, and scope of work documents.
1990 Principal Engineer
Davy McKee. Responsible for the engineering and design of mechanical and piping sys-tems for a copper smelter modification project involving development of a waste heat boiler system. Performed heat balance calculations; sizing and selection of equipment such as auxiliary boiler, heat exchangers, pumps, control valves, a turbine system and controls; and preparation of specifications for related equipment and piping.
1984 to 1990 Engineering Consultant
Innova Corporation / Code III Associates. Provided services in support of engineering and design activities for various design and engineering projects. Projects involved performing load studies for gas transmission and distribution systems, computer modeling of gas systems, load growth projections, cost estimates, evaluation of results and preparation of mitigation reports. Developed standard, detailed designs of modular wellhead binary cycle power system using light hydrocarbons as working fluid and geothermal fluid as the hea...
