Work Experience:
Ingersoll Rand Industrial Solutions, Southern Pines, NC.
From Sept. 2011 to Present
Duties: Manufacturing/Tooling Engineer
The last year at Ingersoll Rand Southern pines has been spent working on process improvements in the machine shop. The emphasis has been on combining operations and eliminating waste as well as correcting long standing issues with quality. In some cases entirely new processes have been developed. One example that stands out is the work I did with a product known as the “Thunder Gun.” This is an air driven impact gun used exclusively by the pit crews on the NASCAR circuit. IR was having performance issues with the tool that were threatening sales of this highly visible product. The issues stemmed from the fact that before a move to combine facilities the components of the tool were in essence “hand fitted” due to their extremely tight tolerance requirements. The highly skilled craftsmen that performed this work were no longer available. Once the issues were identified I was able to develop an entirely new process that was able to replicate the “hand fitted” process without the use of any manual operations at all.
Another successful project included replacing an antiquated piece of equipment from a machining cell with an underutilized machining center. The results were the freeing up of two additional turning centers from the cell and a productivity gain of 30%. This productivity gain allowed the discontinuation of a 3rd shift with a 100k savings annually. In addition to this the components produced prior to the new process had been the heaviest hitters on the reject list from our internal customer. After the change the quality issues were eliminated.

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake, Bowling Green Ky.
From Sept. 2008 to Sept. 2011
Duties: Manufacturing/Tooling Engineer

After finishing the setup and stabilization of the machining process at our Acuna ll plant, I asked to be transferred to the Bowling Green facility. The Bowling Green facility was in it's second year of startup after transferring several processes from different plants in Kentucky to create the new entity of Bendix Spicer. My duties here have consisted of a variety spanning all areas of manufacturing engineering.
To give a quick synopsis, I have been responsible for: CNC Programming, design and implementation of new fixturing and tooling using Autocad and Solid Edge, retrofitting older equipment with new technologies to improve quality and safety, developing standard work, developing standardized shop floor documentation and engineering documents, managing the punch press operation with all related tooling needs and repairs, performing SLP functions, and working with the product design engineers to develop new products as well as perform DFMEAs and PFMEAs. I also work with our corporate HS&E team as part of a local safety team responsible for activities at our plant. In addition to these things I have recently been asked to take the lead in implementing lean techniques on our lines. The lean tools we are using are 5S, TPM, Value Stream Mapping. We also use Kaizan events to balance our lines develop takt times.

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, Del Rio Tx.
From June 2006 to Sept. 2008
Duties: Production Manager-Machining Engineer

I started with Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems as a BTM (Business Team Manager). My postion was to manage the machining operations at our Acuna Plant II site. The machining operations consisted of 25-30 operators running milling and turning centers over 3 shifts. I reported directly to the Plant Manager. In 2007 our facilities received training and we began implementing the TPS system on our lines. This included the use of Kaizan events, 5s, 5 whys, and TPM.
Later in 2007 Bendix relocated its compressor operation from Frankfort Ky to Acuna Plant II. I led the receiving team on the machining side of the operation. This involved setting up and getting PPAP approvals for 8 Makino A-77s, 2 Makino A-66s, a Makino A-51 and one HAAS horizontal mill. In addition to the machine tools themselves, I also established the tool crib, metrology, and tool refurbishment processes for this project. In all, I was responsible for every aspect of the machining project including but not limited to programming, tooling purchase and design, setup, training, and troubleshooting. I was also involved in the FMEA processes related to machining.
