Related Skills and Experience
Tailings Processing Experience
• Expert in the design and application of thickening units such as high-rate or paste-thickeners and other water reclaimation/solids thickening units such as ponds or tank clarifiers.
• Expert in the design and application of tailings dewatering units, such as belt filter presses and plate & frame filter presses.
• Experienced with many different pumping applicatons (centrifugal, positive-displacement, metering, etc.) as well as the associated design choices in pipeline engineering.
• Expert in the application of hydrocyclones for thickening, de-sliming, scavenging, and/or classification.
• Has experience designing and applying separation devices including dense-fluidized-beds in the classification of mineral particles or the removal of deleterious material from competent mineral.
• Identifies proper chemical type and dosage rate for the company’s process equipment, specifically flocculants and coagulants needed for clarification, thickening, and dewatering of sludge and slurry.
• Has extensive experience with mobile or pilot-scale units for many kinds of mineral processing, tailings processing, and ancillary equipment (thickeners, cyclone separators, dewatering screens, belt filter presses, fluidzed-bed classifiers, pneumatic jigs, pumps, and polymer make-down systems).
• Extensive experience calculating and organizing design criteria for process flow sheets including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
• Creates process flow diagrams (PFD) for defining liquid, solids, volumetric, and material balances.
• Has detailed understanding of hydraulic line loss calculations, equipment sizing, and technical specifications.
• Understands many physical phenomena, including hands-on experience with pumping, piping, electrical, controls, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, valve technology, and piping systems.
• Demonstrates a great ability to problem-solve during operation of tailings processing equipment and efficiently trouble-shoots issues that arise in order to resume planned experiments or operation.

Field, Bench-Scale, and Pilot-Scale Experience
• Extensive field engineering experience including gathering data, sampling process flows, direct client contact/communication, and communicating with electricians and mechanics.
• Has conducted thousands of bench-scale experiments in an industrial laboratory setting over the course of thirteen years. Daily experience interpreting those experiments in order to estimate full-scale performance.
• Has completed over forty pilot-scale experiments in support of closely estimating full-scale performance.
• Designs and conducts studies of operational data in support of customer’s production goals. Measures and reports equipment capacity and efficiency with respect to product/waste rates.
• Has travelled domestically and internationally in support of start-up and application of tailings processing equipment including travel to several Carribean sites and one experience as far away as a Siberian coal processing application in Russia.
